“Utterly stop”

As Audrey was practicing her driving, Jared often served as her passenger teacher.

One afternoon while driving around Kendall, Audrey came upon a stop sign. Jared felt that she wasn't slowing down soon enough, and opted to say something. Notably, this was during a time when he had a vocal stim for adding the word “utter” to amplify everything.

To caution Audrey, he said, “Utterly stop... utterly stop...” — but when she didn't slow down, he shouted, “UTTERLY STOP!”

She braked hard, finally realizing what he was saying.

“Why did you say waste time saying 'utterly' stop?” she asked, frazzled.

It was a reasonable question that did not have an answer.
